Renovation and Remodeling | the Finer Details

There are so many considerations when undertaking a home renovation or remodeling project. Budget is of course, always a significant factor when undertaking the change. Although many feel that creating a bottom line and working backward is a successful approach, our experience is that the most successful renovations are a result of examing all possibilities and creating a balance between long-term needs, wants within the home, integrity in finishes, and finding areas where compromise does not result in regret down the road.

As we look at some of the following projects, consider what you feel to be important, what are the must-haves for your home renovation, and what are items that are less important to you. In the end, let’s connect and discuss your renovation and remodeling plans. We can work with you to get the results you want.

Foyers – Setting the Stage

Foyers are the welcoming point to your home. Unlike the informal, utilitarian back entrance, the foyer makes a statement for your home. Architecturally, it sets the tone for the home. Elements that you find as you first enter the foyer are often replicated throughout the rest of the home. This can as pictured here, be a stain color that becomes a familiar accent, the overall design aesthetic – traditional, contemporary, and so forth, color-palette, hardware selections, and countless other elements.

Never underestimate the foyer. Regardless of size or shape, it is a foundational area of the home and deserves attention.

Staircases, Laundry Rooms, and Specialty Spaces

The Owner’s Suite

Kitchens often become a central focus, and rightly so, in renovation and remodeling projects. However, consider the sanctuary that is the Owner’s Suite.

Your place to escape, recover from the day, find a respite from the flurry of activities that often buzz throughout our days. The Owner’s Suite is a your personal space. It should be tailored very specifically to you. Unlike other areas of the home that may have a design towards entertaining, family gatherings, or children at play, your bedroom should be all about you.

This is not to say that there is no continuity between the Owner’s Suite and the rest of the home, just that a bit more attention is paid to your very specific needs and wants. A soaker tub? An eight-head shower? The possibilities are limitless.

The Kitchen

No denying the most often renovated and remodeled space in a home is the kitchen. After all, it is the heart of our home. Kitchens rank in the seventieth in mixed-use spaces – in other words, kitchens are seldom used solely for meal prep.

Today we find countless iterations in kitchen design. From spaces that marvel a commercial-gourmet kitchen to cozy spaces with room enough for light conversation and a nook to do homework and so much more.

Pictured here, are two beautiful examples of modern kitchen designs. The first, is classic in design, with elements that create a timeless look and feel. Notice the great use of storage on the island while at the same time, making an interesting focal point.

The second picture is a scullery – a feature that is becoming more and more commonplace in today’s kitchen design. Not only beneficial as extra storage, the addition of a sink, microwave, oven, and potentially a fridge, make the scullery an integral extension of the kitchen.
