Staircases, Laundyrooms, and Specialty Spaces

Staircases, Laundry Rooms, and Specialty Spaces, more often than not, become focal points in our clients’ homes. Although the laundry room is not typically the place we gather with friends and family, we do spend a lot of time there, working, and therefore want it to be as comfortable and efficient as possible. Similarly, staircases are often central to lives, and often central within our homes.

Let’s look a little closer into these and other spaces within the home.

Staircases, Laundry Rooms, and Specialty Spaces

Let’s begin with Staircases

Staircases

As visible in the images, staircases need not be reserved to a utility status within the home. From meandering spirals to lineal reflections of the home’s architectural aesthetic, staircases are visually central to our homes.

The first staircase pictured is an example of a contemporary design and follows closely with the rest of the home. Clean lines, white walls, skirting, risers, and open windows, intensify the striking nature of the wrought-iron handrail system.  Notice the vault and angles in the ceiling above. Again, everything is a reflection of the rest of the home. Care to see more of this home? Do so here: 2021 Reggie-Winning Home

The second image contrasts the first completely. Full of grace, charm, and elegance, this stairwell speaks to refinement and lavish details.

Regardless of personal preference, both examples are stunning and showcase what a staircase can be.

The Dirt on Laundry Rooms

Laundry Rooms

Continuing on our exploration of Staircases, Laundry Rooms, and Specialty Spaces, we enter the Laundry Room. There is no way to spin it (pun intended), laundry rooms are pure and simple utility spaces. When I look back at the laundry room of my childhood, I recall a gloomy, foreboding space. Cinderblocks, a couple of lightbulbs on pull-stings – spiders. No sense in any of that.

Today, laundry rooms are inviting. They are bright, cheerful, and fun. Truly, a reflection of our personalities, our lifestyles, and as whimsical as possible so that the “chore” is as much removed from the space as humanly possible. Laundry day may never be fun. However, there is no reason for it to be dreadful.

Nooks, Crannies, and Specialty Spaces

Specialty Spaces

The final leg on our tour: Specialty Spaces. From back entry storage to hidden-bonus rooms, these spaces always get a lot of attention. Not only for their uniqueness but for the sheer fact that the spaces are vitally important to the function of our homes and often, very important to us personally.

For example, the very functional bench found in the back-entry of a home we recently completed. Very functional with ample coat hooks, storage, and of course, a place to sit and lace up the shoes.

Next, we have the “secret” bonus room. This room was not truly hidden but did reside behind a bookcase, so sort of secret.

All in all, these spaces tend to cater to specific needs and wants.
